Utah State and Wisconsin, which kicked off their 2017 seasons on Friday night, share a unique link.

Both schools were coached by current Oregon State coach Gary Andersen. In fact, Andersen coached the Aggies the last time the teams played at Camp Randall Stadium in 2012. Wisconsin needed a 17-yard touchdown run from Montee Ball with 3:06 left in the third quarter for a 16-14 win to avoid an upset.

Yup, that's Andersen shaking hands with then-Badgers coach Bret Bielema after that game. Late that year, Bielema left to take the Arkansas job, and Wisconsin hired Andersen as his replacement.

Andersen spent two seasons at Wisconsin, with the Badgers going 19-7 during his tenure. But like Bielema before him, Andersen left in December of the 2014 season, taking the Oregon State job.

That left the Wisconsin job open for ... Paul Chryst, who is now in his third season at his alma mater.

And the Gary Andersen Bowl is under way ...
