NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State University has added former Iowa State quarterback Jared Barnett to its roster.

Redbird coach Brock Spack said Thursday the 6-1 Barnett should help fill the gap left after Matt Brown finished his last season. Brown is Illinois State's all-time leading passer.

Barnett said Jan. 11 that he was leaving Iowa State. He started three games last fall for the Cyclones and played in seven but was eventually demoted to third string.

Spack said Barnett will bring the experience of having played on a big stage. Barnett has two years of eligibility left.

Illinois State's other quarterbacks are sophomore Adam Pittser and redshirt freshman Blake Winkler.

The Redbirds were 9-4 last season and lost in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
