MONROE, La. (AP) — Louisiana-Monroe has hired Jerry McManus as tight ends coach, pending approval of the University of Louisiana System's Board of Supervisors.

Coach Todd Berry said Thursday that McManus brings experience to the Warhawks' program.

Last season, McManus served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at New Mexico State University. Prior to that, he served as interim head coach at Kent State for the final game of the 2010 season. Other coaching stints included time at his alma mater, Wake Forest University, and at East Carolina, the University of Connecticut, Tulane University, the University of Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.

McManus has coached five players who have gone on to play in the NFL, among them are running back Leonard Henry and wide receiver Ricky Proehl, Wake Forest's all-time leading receiver.
