The Florida Panthers sent a banner plane to Lane Kiffin's debut game at FAU on Friday night, showing support to the Owls _ who play their home games about a half-hour north of where the Panthers play their games.
A little bit of "Beat Navy" talk didn't hurt, either.
The Panthers are marketing more to surrounding areas this year with a campaign they're calling OneTerritory, and that was the message on the banner that circled FAU Stadium. But behind that was the phrase "Go FAU Beat Navy."

It was more than support for the home team. There was a subtle jab at the visitors as well.
Many in the Panthers' leadership group _ including owner Vincent Viola and president Matthew Caldwell _ are West Point graduates. And for anyone with Army ties, saying "Beat Navy" in football season only seems right.
