SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Longtime Wofford football assistant Jack Teachey has been promoted to defensive coordinator.

Teachey has spent the past19 years with the Terriers, most recently as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. Teachey takes over for Nate Woody, who was hired by Appalachian State earlier this month.

Teachey has worked with 11 linemen over the past 10 seasons who went on to earn All-Southern Conference honors. The Terriers rushing defense led the conference in limiting opponents to 69 yards a game.

Teachey was a high school coach in North Carolina before joining the Terriers staff for the 1994 season.

Wofford (9-4) earned a share of the league title this past season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Football Championship Series playoffs.
