MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Western Illinois says football coach Mark Hendrickson will not return next season.

Hendrickson went 18-32 in five years with the Leathernecks, including parts of the 2008 and 2009 seasons as the acting coach.

Western Illinois announced the decision on Monday. The school said the "terms of the transition are under discussion" but the coaching search starts immediately.

The Leathernecks went 3-8 this season, losing their final six games. They also closed out the 2011 season with a six-game slide.
