Crisp County High School linebacker Quay Walker made the most of his TV time by adding some drama to his signing day news conference.

Walker, who had been an Alabama commitment, sat behind caps from the Crimson Tide, Tennessee and Georgia at the announcement at his high school gym. Walker put on an orange Tennessee cap before dramatically taking it off, flinging it aside, tearing off his gray sweatsuit to reveal Georgia colors and putting on a Georgia hat as his classmates cheered.

Smart said he wasn't watching the announcement on TV because he was watching tape of 2019 and 2020 recruits. But he said he heard from his wife, Mary Beth, who was watching.

"She was scared to death," Smart said.

Smart said the signing day drama is "their moment in the sun."

"That's their family time and opportunity to be on TV and give the University of Georgia some publicity and I'm happy for Quay and his family," he said.

Walker's decision helped to solidify Georgia's top-ranked signing class.
