Alabama safety Eddie Jackson got to take the field with his teammates even if he couldn't play.

The Crimson Tide star, who broke his leg against Texas A&M in October, was voted a captain by his teammates. He headed to midfield for the coin toss with fans chanting "Eddie" before Monday night's championship game against Clemson, and before the semifinal contest against Washington.

Jackson penned a letter to his teammates on The Players Tribune on Dec. 30. He said the day of his injury was among the worst of his life and that he "couldn't stop crying" when he learned his season was over.

Jackson also exhorted the Tide players going into that semifinal game.

"I would give anything to be able to take the field with my brothers one more time," he wrote. "So when you go out there, put every bit of yourself into every single play."
