Clemson coach Dabo Swinney didn't wait until the national championship game to see his alma mater this time.

Swinney was among the members of the Crimson Tide's 1992 title team honored on the field before No. 1 Alabama's game with Arkansas. His second-ranked Tigers suffered their first loss Friday night at Syracuse.

Then Swinney, a Birmingham native, headed back to his home state. He was a walk-on wide receiver at Alabama who earned a scholarship, then was an assistant under his old head coach Gene Stallings.

Swinney got a loud ovation from Alabama fans.

Clemson beat Alabama in last season's national title game. The Tide won it the year before, and they have appeared to be on a collision course for Showdown No. 3.
