CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois football coach Tim Beckman says he's hired Jim Bridge as offensive line coach.

Illinois hired Bridge on Wednesday after six seasons at North Carolina State. Bridge coached the offensive line at NC State the past two seasons after coaching the tight ends.

In a news release, Beckman says he and Bridge worked together at Bowling Green for a season as assistant coaches. Beckman calls Bridge a top recruiter.

Bridge says he looks forward to competing in the Big Ten.

Bridge has also coached at a number of other schools including Boston College, Ohio State and Eastern Michigan.

He replaces Luke Butkus, who left to join Florida International.

The offensive line was one of several areas of concern for Illinois after last season's 2-10 finish.
