COMMERCE, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M-Commerce coach Guy Morriss has resigned after the Lions went 1-9 this season. The school on Monday announced the resignation. West Texas A&M on Saturday beat A&M-Commerce 45-14. Morriss was hired by the Division II school in January 2009 after coaching at Baylor and Kentucky. He was 10-41 in four seasons at A&M-Commerce. Morriss in March 2010 apologized for praising his players for removing campus newspapers from their racks because of a negative story about the program. Morriss will remain as a special assistant to the athletic director for fundraising and special projects. A&M-Commerce will immediately begin the search for a new football coach.
