RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — New North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren has made his first coaching hire, bringing in Ryan Nielsen to coach the defensive line and serve as recruiting coordinator. Nielsen spent the past two seasons at Northern Illinois under Doeren. This year, he was the co-defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach. Before coaching at Northern Illinois, Nielsen worked as an assistant at Tennessee-Martin and Mississippi. The 33-year-old was an all-conference defensive lineman at Southern California. N.C. State hired Doeren away from Northern Illinois last weekend, less than 24 hours after he guided the Huskies to a second straight Mid-American Conference championship.
