DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for murdering a Central State University football player at a southwest Ohio nightclub last year.

The Montgomery County prosecutor's spokesman says 31-year-old Jason Shern of Dayton was sentenced Tuesday in Dayton. The spokesman says Shern had pleaded guilty to murder in the fatal shooting of CSU player Kordero Hunter and to three counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon and two weapons counts.

Shern's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Authorities said a fight broke out Sept. 23, 2011, inside a Dayton nightclub and several people were escorted outside. Police said Shern began shooting outside, killing Hunter. Three others were injured.

Hunter, of suburban Chicago, was a defensive back at the university near Dayton.
